09/16/07 Yuasa Empty
PostSubject: 09/16/07 Yuasa   09/16/07 Yuasa EmptyThu Jan 24, 2008 1:40 am

Today i did the Yuasa Crit race in Laureldale, PA. Three things bothered me about this race. One, i could not get a weather forecast for the town. What kind of town does not show up on weather.com??? Second, this was a PA state championship points race and state crit championships for different fields. I knew it was going to be fast. Three, whenever you see haybales all over a crit course i always ask myself "What the hell am i getting myself into?'' This is probably the last cat 5 crit for me before i upgrade. Maybe one or two races left this year and then taking a break.

Some of our guys did this race last year. For those of you who have never raced at Yuasa Ed described it like Somerville. Very accurate. Four tight corners and a hill about 2-3 times higher than Greentree (backwards) around the same pitch.

I had the perfect screwed up start. Could not click in right away so i went from 10th to 40th before the first turn, NICE!!! Our field had 40-45 riders and i may have been the only out of state rider.

First 5 laps i was chasing the field from dropped rider after dropped rider from my bad start. With 5 to go i caught up but was in the back so every corner was still a catch up. With 1/2 to go i moved up to around 9th. The field now was only 15 guys in contention from the original 40ish. I passed a couple more before the corner and finished 7th. This race was hard. Probably the most dropped riders in a field that i have seen. Last year the same thing happened according to my archived race report library from the Captain.

I also took Kim with me again. I got the early morning look from hell at 4:45AM. She slept up and back. She finally talked to me on Lincoln Ave. (about 3 miles from home on my 225 mile round trip) and said she had a good time. I think i might still be paying for this race in days or weeks to come! Dennis
